A design for the new John St playground in Ranfurly has been released for community feedback.
Central Otago District Council sought community input last September into the process, with a survey that attracted 60 responses, and a community drop-in session.
It then went to market for the project, using the community input in the project brief.
Play space design and build specialist company Creo, which recently completed the Clyde River Park playground, was chosen to deliver the playground.
The company had prepared posters and a 3-D concept video, which were available to view on council’s website and at the Ranfurly Service Centre, Maniatoto Library and the Ranfurly i-SITE.
The intention was to put orders in for play equipment by late September, for installation in autumn next year.
Before plans are locked inand orders placed, the council wants to know what the community thinks of the concept.
Interested parties are asked to complete a short survey before 5pm, Sunday, September 11.
Parks officer projects Marie Gordon said the concept ‘‘incorporates play pieces that have been selected to provide a variety of play types and challenges for users of all ages and abilities’’.
‘‘The star element in the centre is a 6m-high structure that will encourage inter-generational play with both junior and more advanced play options in a shared space.
‘‘The other two new features — the rope swing net and basket pendulum swing — are inclusive pieces that provide play opportunities for users of all abilities too.’’
Some existing equipment (swing set and ‘‘wobblies’’) would be retained and given a makeover to complement the new playground, helping stretch the $200,000 upgrade budget further.
