The Central Otago Vintage Car Club is rallying to support the Cancer Society’s Daffodil Day on Sunday and all ages and vehicle types are invited.
Event organiser Graham Taylor, of Luggate, said the Cromwell Vintage Car Club decided to take up the Daffodil Day cause several years ago but had been hampered by Covid-19 lockdowns.
‘‘We had a successful rally in 2019. In 2020 it was canned and in 2021 it was postponed and then we had a smaller rally,’’ he said.
Mr Taylor hoped this year the club rally would attract a large crowd.
‘‘We are running a two-part event. [The first part is] a Monte Carlo-style rally for people who want to do that. There are four compulsory way points and we aim to get to Cromwell about midday,’’ he said.
‘‘For those who don’t want to do that, we have a show and shine at 11am at the clubrooms in Cromwell.’’
Participants should bring their own lunch and a $10 per person entry fee to inspect the vintage, classic and modern cars and motorbikes on display.
The club’s spare parts shed would also be open for treasure hunters.
The afternoon raffle offered exciting prizes, from a helicopter ride donated by Simon Spencer-Bower, to two go-cart rides at Highland Motor Sports, ‘‘plus all the gifts I didn’t want at Christmas’’, Mr Taylor joked.
Mr Graham said he was being helped to organise the rally by Wendy and John Martin and members of the Alpine Street Machines Club (New Zealand Hot Rod Association).
