A new online community has been launched to support the growth of the Queenstown Lakes technology industry.
The brainchild of Southern Software founder and chief executive Duncan Faulkner, TechTown.nz is a digital space for people interested in tech to connect, list jobs, create business profiles and form relationships with others involved in the tech industry.
Mr Faulkner said he believed a thriving tech industry could help solve some of the major challenges the region faced, such as housing affordability and environmental impact.
‘‘Launching the TechTown.nz community is part of our contribution towards supporting the region.
‘‘By creating space for people to discuss tech opportunities and challenges, brainstorm ideas and ask questions, it is hoped that we can continue to build on the momentum that has been built by Start Up Queenstown Lakes and the town’s local start›up success stories such as FirstTable and Wherewolf.’’
Wherewolf co›Founder Wolf Solter was involved in hospitality prior to founding the digital waiver app for the adventure tourism industry.
Eight years later his company employs more than 20 people between Queenstown and the United States, with the app used by millions of people globally.
Mr Faulkner said anyone was welcome to join TechTown.nz, especially those currently working from home who were looking to connect with others.
