It is a year late, but all the more special for it.
Roxburgh Golf Club’s 100th August golf tournament will take place this weekend, having been cancelled last year because of the Covid-19 lockdown.
Women’s club captain Heather Hiscock said the field was full for the Friday event, with 116 players, but there was still some space left on Saturday [men’s and women’s championships] and plenty of room for the Sunday four-ball, best-ball Stableford.
“It’s a lovely part of Roxburgh’s history,” she said.
Mrs Hiscock said the tournament had originally been run over five days but the duration was cut down in the 1990s.
“It has gradually gone down over the years. We went from five days, to four, and it has even been two,” she said.
Many former residents return to the town to take part in the event.
A function would be held on Friday evening in the Roxburgh Town Hall with radio personality Jamie Mackay and former local Eric Olsen speaking, followed by a light supper.
